An export support platform has been established in Malaysia. The export promotion system, including halal certification, has been strengthened.

On May 2, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries established a new “Export Support Platform” in Malaysia. Malaysia is a particularly robust market within the ASEAN region, with exports of Japanese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and food products having tripled in the past decade, and the number of Japanese restaurants rapidly increasing.

The platform’s main objectives are to strengthen halal compliance targeting the Malay market and to access previously untapped local distribution channels. Going forward, the platform will be central to further promoting exports within Malaysia.

With approximately 60% of Malaysia’s population of 34 million being Muslim, the demand for halal-certified Japanese food products is expected to increase further. Along with the expansion of the affluent and middle classes, interest in high-quality Japanese food brands is accelerating.

Our organization will actively promote export support for agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and processed goods to the Malaysian market, in cooperation with this platform.
