In 2023, the value of agricultural, forestry, and fishery product exports reached 1,454.1 billion yen, marking a new record high for the 12th consecutive year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and food products in 2023 reached 1,454.1 billion yen, marking a new record high for the 12th consecutive year. This represents a steady increase of 2.9% year-on-year, indicating the continued rise in global demand for Japanese brands.

By product category, while scallop exports were affected by China’s import ban, this was compensated for by diversification of exports to the United States and Southeast Asia. High value-added items such as green tea, sake, and beef continued to perform well. By region, exports to ASEAN countries expanded steadily, with Malaysia becoming a major export destination.

The government has set a target of increasing export value to 2 trillion yen by 2025 and 5 trillion yen by 2030, and a public-private partnership system for promoting exports is being put in place. Now, with Japanese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products in demand worldwide, is an excellent time to consider entering the export market.
