The government has revised its “Strategy for Expanding Exports of Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Products and Foodstuffs,” accelerating efforts to achieve the 2030 target of 5 trillion yen in exports.

On May 30, 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced a revision to its “Implementation Strategy for Expanding Exports of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Products and Foodstuffs.” To achieve the government targets set in the new “Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas,” approved by the Cabinet in April 2025—5 trillion yen in exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and foodstuffs (by FY2030), 3 trillion yen in revenue from overseas expansion of the food industry, and 4.5 trillion yen in food-related consumption due to inbound tourism—the Ministry plans to further strengthen its export promotion efforts.

Exports in 2025 have already reached 1.7005 trillion yen, requiring approximately a threefold increase to reach the 5 trillion yen target for 2030. This revision includes a focused approach to Southeast Asian markets, particularly Malaysia, and strengthened halal compliance as key pillars.

The brand power and high quality of Japanese agricultural, forestry and fishery products and foodstuffs are highly regarded throughout Asia. With government support as a tailwind, now is the time to take a step towards exporting.
