── FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our export support, overseas expansion, and investment services.
── Export Support
Can you handle small-volume exports of agricultural and marine products?▼
Yes, absolutely. For first-time exporters in particular, we recommend starting with a small test shipment to gauge local market response before scaling up. We support the entire process — from market research and test shipments to buyer feedback analysis. Getting a feel for what sells before committing to large volumes is the surest path to success.
What types of agricultural and marine products can you support for export?▼
We support a wide range of Japan’s agricultural, forestry, and marine products, with a particular focus on Wagyu beef, matcha, scallops, yellowtail, and sake. For Malaysia, some products require Halal certification — we provide end-to-end support including the certification process. Please share your products and target export markets, and we’ll propose the most suitable route.
How do you find local buyers?▼
We leverage our established buyer network built directly in Malaysia and Sri Lanka. We have a proven track record with quality-focused buyers at premium supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and trading companies. Beyond introductions, we accompany you to meetings, provide interpretation, and support price negotiations — our team’s deep understanding of local business culture ensures your product’s value is communicated clearly and effectively.
What documents and procedures are required for export?▼
Requirements vary by product and destination, but typically include a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, sanitary certificate, and phytosanitary certificate. For Malaysia, some products additionally require Halal certification. We handle everything from document preparation to customs clearance guidance, so even first-time exporters can proceed with confidence.
── Overseas Expansion & Consulting
This would be our first overseas expansion. Can we still consult with you?▼
Absolutely. In fact, the most common scenario is clients who come to us saying “we don’t even know where to start.” We listen to your business and goals, then design the right destination, timeline, and procedures from scratch. The first consultation is completely free, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
We’re not sure whether to expand to Malaysia or Sri Lanka. Can you advise?▼
The best destination depends on your business, goals, and budget. Malaysia offers an English-speaking business environment, 100% foreign ownership, and a stable legal framework — ideal for manufacturing, services, and F&B. Sri Lanka’s Port City Colombo Special Zone offers extraordinary tax incentives, making it perfect for finance, investment funds, and FX companies. We can also propose simultaneous expansion into both countries. We’ll recommend the best plan in a free consultation.
How long does it take from the initial consultation to completing the expansion?▼
Timelines vary depending on the destination and nature of the business, but as a general guide: company registration in Malaysia takes 2–4 months, and in Sri Lanka 3–6 months. By running bank account opening, visa acquisition, and office securing in parallel, we optimize the overall schedule. At the initial consultation, we’ll present a specific timeline tailored to your situation.
Can we trust the local lawyers and accountants? How do we choose the right ones?▼
We introduce a carefully vetted network of first-class local professionals, selected based on years of proven results. Beyond introductions, we accompany you to meetings, explain content in English, and support negotiations with specialists. We resolve the anxiety of “not knowing who to trust,” and put in place the legal and financial protection your business needs.
How much does it cost?▼
Fees vary depending on the service, but our core pricing philosophy is: “consulting fees are fixed, distribution fees are variable.” All estimates and invoices clearly itemize every cost with a final total — there are never any unexpected charges. We’ll walk you through specific pricing at the initial free consultation.
── Investment & Port City Colombo
Is it really true that Port City Colombo offers zero corporate tax?▼
Yes, it is. Under Regulations No. 1 of 2025 (effective September 2025), companies designated as Primary BSI (Business of Strategic Importance) are legally guaranteed full corporate tax exemption for up to 15 years. Personal income tax is also 0%, and 100% foreign ownership is permitted — advantages that surpass even Singapore and Dubai. We provide individual simulations during our free consultation.
Sri Lanka had an economic crisis. Is it safe to invest there?▼
Following the 2022 economic crisis, Sri Lanka has made a strong recovery. The country’s 2024 real GDP growth rate reached +5.0%, significantly exceeding IMF projections, with stable growth of 3.0–3.9% forecast for 2025. Port City Colombo operates under a legal framework entirely independent of Sri Lanka’s domestic economy, with tax incentives guaranteed by law. If anything, now — with the crisis behind and entry costs still low — is the ideal time to secure first-mover advantage.
What is the minimum capital required to establish an investment fund or FX company?▼
To qualify as a Primary BSI in the Port City Colombo Special Zone, requirements vary by category — Category A, for example, requires a minimum investment of USD 100 million and the creation of at least 300 jobs. However, different entry structures and business formats within the zone may offer alternative pathways. We’ll propose the most suitable approach for your scale and goals in a free individual consultation.
What kind of rental yields can I expect from real estate in Malaysia and Sri Lanka?▼
Yields vary by area and property type, but in emerging areas on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, there are properties where annual rental yields of 5–8% can reasonably be expected. In the Port City Colombo area of Sri Lanka, asset values are projected to rise in tandem with special zone development, with strong total returns anticipated including capital gains. We’ll share specific property information during a free consultation.
── General Inquiries
I’m not based in Japan. Can I still consult with you?▼
Absolutely. Our initial consultations are conducted online via Zoom or Google Meet as standard, so clients from anywhere in the world are welcome. In-person meetings at our Tokyo office are also available upon request. We accommodate both Japan Standard Time and Malaysia Time, so those based in the region are equally welcome to reach out.
Can individuals consult with you, or is this only for companies?▼
Individuals are very welcome. We receive many inquiries from individuals on topics such as overseas relocation, personal asset management, and starting an export business. Consultations at the information-gathering stage — before any formal plan is in place — are also warmly welcomed. Simply share your current situation and goals, and we’ll provide the most relevant advice.
Will the content of our consultation be kept confidential?▼
Yes. All consultation content is strictly managed and will never be disclosed to any third party. Whether you share business plans, financial information, or personal details, you can trust us to handle everything with the utmost care. We are also happy to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) if required. We are committed to providing an environment where you can consult with complete peace of mind.
